In the case of the following diseases the evidence i8 lacking to demon fltrate the efficiency of Bordeaux mixture as a preventive, or at least as the best fungicide to be employed. In some eases it bas failed entirely: Powdery mildew or o'idiumof the grape (Uncinula necator), an thracnose of the grape (Qleeosporium ampelophagum), peach-leaf curl (Taphrina deformans), peach rot (Monilia fructigena), gooseberry powdery niililew (Sphtrrotheca morsui-w), currant leaf spot (Septoria ribis), raspberry anthracnose (Qlceosporium tenetum), potato scab(Oospora scabies), downy mildew of the tomato (Phytophthora infestans), cranberry gall fungus (Synchytrium raccinii), cranberry scald, loose smut of wheat Ustilago tritici), stinking smuts of wheat (Tilletiafceteris and T. tritica), corn smut ( Ustilago maydis), and rusts of cereals (Puccinia rubigovera, P. coronata, and P. graminis). Treatment for oat smut, A. A. Mills Utah Sta. Bpt. 1893, pp. 225-228).--Two years' experiments were conducted with the Jensen or hot water and potassium sulphid treatment for oat smut. The directions for the Jensen treatment1 are quoted. The potassium sulphid treatment consisted in soaking the seed for 24 hours in a solution of 1 lb. of potassium sulphid to 24 gal. of water, or for 12 hours in a solution of 1 lb. of potassium sulphid to 12 gal. of water.
