Much famous was the main work of Filaret "History of the Russian Church" (driven to 1826), released in five editions in Riga and Moscow in 1847-1848 and went through many editions. The author proposed a fundamentally new periodization of Russian church history, dividing it into five periods: from the beginning of Christianity in Russia before the Mongol invasion (988-1237). from the invasion of the Mongols to the Russian division of the Archdiocese (1237-1410). the division of the Archdiocese to the establishment of the patriarchate (1410-1588). Patriarchate period (1589-1720). synodal Office (1721-1826). At the end of each issue was a remarkable alphabetical index of persons and objects - an innovation that has not been generally accepted in the Russian scientific writings to the end of the XIX century.
