• Lavatera trimestris is a lovely annual that gives a stunning summer show. It reaches 36 inches in height and has a bloom season lasting all summer long. Commonly called Rose Mallow, Annual Mallow, or Tree Mallow, this variety, Mont Blanc, has blooms that measure 4 inches across and are white in color with lighter colored veins. Rose mallow is a 3 foot tall annual plant growing in USDA zones 4 - 9. Rose Mallows are highly praised for their exceptional blooms and the beauty they add to the border or garden. Deadhead the spent blooms to encourage a longer bloom time. They are known to self-sow but are not considered to be a nuisance. Sowing Rate: 3 - 4 seeds per plant. Start the seed outdoors in the spring after danger of frost has passed. Prepare a seedbed and press 3 – 4 seeds into the soil and cover with 1/16 inch of soil. Space the groups of seed about 20 inches apart. Keep the seed moist. With temperatures between 65 – 80F, germination usually occurs within 20 days.
