• Excerpt from The Journal of Biological Chemistry, Vol. 7: Baltimore 1909-10These particular results suggest that in the preparation of the iodo-mucoid products, fragments of the tendomucoid molecules were split Off, which in many respects resembled the original mucoids, but differed from them especially in their solubility. Whether such a cleavage is brought about by the action of iodin alone, or merely as a result of acidifying the iodized product, cannot be stated at present.
